SYNOPSIS

In this 90-minute adaptation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy, the setting is 1939 in Mussolini's Italy prior to World War 2. Verona is a wealthy city that has been infiltrated by two Calabrian N’Drangheta ‘families’, the Capulets and the Montagues who begin as one branch but soon become mortal enemies creating civil unrest.

Romeo and Juliet meet unwittingly at Carnevale, where she mistakes Romeo for Paris, the weathly son of Verona's Prefetto Escalus, but soon realises that he is her sworn enemy. Their secret love has devastating and deadly consequences.

ROMEO & JULIET was a 2017 AIM Dramatic Arts production featuring second year Bachelor of Performance students.
