SYNOPSIS

Anna is beautiful, admired and married to a powerful man but her life feels empty – until a chance meeting with the dashing Count Vronsky throws her into emotional turmoil and a scandalous affair. Contrasting with this tale of destructive love is the story of Levin, an idealistic man striving to find meaning in his own life.

An adaptation of the novel of the same name by Leo Tolstoy, Helen Edmundson’s Anna Karenina is set in late 19th century Imperial Russia and revolves around Anna Arkadyevna Karenina, a married aristrocrat who has an adulterous affair, which is the beginning and cause of her social downfall and eventual demise. Helen Edmundson’s celebrated and ‘exemplary adaptation’ (London Times) of Leo Tolstoy’s enduring classic is a contemporary morality play about the extreme consequences of love.

ANNA KARENINA was an AIM Dramatic Arts production, featuring 2016 Bachelor of Performance graduating students.
